Frank Hubbert Beaver – Son of Ed and Minnie Beaver

Hubbert (Hub) Beaver, the seventh child of Ed and Minnie Beaver, was born in the Millerville Community of Erath County, Texas November 1, 1902. He was our youngest brother, and was at home while we four sisters were growing up. We adored him, even though he was never content unless he had one of us crying and running to Mama to tell on him. He was a happy-go-lucky kid, full of fun and mischief, who liked to hear and repeat little off-color jokes. Hub was a resourceful boy like his brother Charley, always doing something to earn a little money, and he enjoyed buying gifts for us girls. I still have a little cut glass pitcher and one of the four little glasses he gave me for Xmas when I was six years old. It was his nature to share, and this was a characteristic that remained with him until he died.

Hub went to school at Girard, where he finished in 1922, but he decided to wait to have his commencement in 1923 with Lee Ella. He was a star basketball player and the winner in the mile race in athletics. For several years after graduation, he operated a tailor shop in Girard, with Joe Hunnicutt as his partner. Then later, he moved to Crosbyton and established a cleaning business.

He married Juanita Inez Sanders, the tenth child of W. D. (Bob) and Arlena Sanders. She was born at Polar, Kent County, Texas, November 10, 1915. She was affectionately called Wort by Hub and all the family. Our dad always gave her credit for making a man out of Hub. They had no children of their own, but were fortunate to adopt two.

Robert Bernon Beaver was born October 1, 1931, at Sweetwater, Texas, and was officially adopted in 1940. He married Marilyn Dean Castner January 7, 1953, in Lubbock. To this marriage, two daughters were born, Rhonda Dean Beaver and Rebecca Ann Beaver, born January 28, 1954 and March 9, 1955 respectively. Rhonda gave Hub and Wort three great-grandchildren and Rebecca gave them two.

Their second adopted child, Norma Faye, was born October 28, 1944, in Lubbock, and was adopted in Plainview in 1945. Norma married Johnny Daniel May 19, 1967. They are the parents of Gavin John, born September 21, 1969, in Meridian, Mississippi, and Ginger Rene, born October 13, 1974, in Lubbock.

Hub and Wort lived in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, where he ran a cleaning business. They moved to Petersburg, Texas in 1938. They both worked in the ginning and cotton business, and in 1941 Hub was made manager of the Caldwell gin in Lubbock County. Along with everyone else, they weathered the war years there, then moved into Lubbock in 1951.

Hub was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1958, and he had lung surgery in Dallas in September. He passed away at the Taylor Clinic in Lubbock October 13, 1958. Juanita lives in Lubbock, near Norma and Johnny, enjoying watching her grand children develop into bubbling teenagers.

Since this chapter of the Hub Beaver family was submitted, we were saddened to hear of the death of their son, Bobby.
