Kitty Lee Beaver McCollum – Sister of Ed Beaver

Kitty Lee Beaver was born February 23, 1869, in Bates County, Missouri. She was the second child of Joe and Nancy Beaver, and was five years old when she moved with ner parents to Texas in a wagon train. She married Sam S. McCollum when she was 15 years old. The descendents are not sure of the exact date. He was born in 1866. They were farmers in the Millerville Community and were the parents of 11 children:

  1. John William McCollum, born February 23, 1888, died October 21, 1888.
  2. Wesley Owen McCollum, born October 2, 1892. He married Grace — and they had two sons, The oldest was killed in a plane crash over the Netherlands, and the second son, called Rusty, was a football coach at Hamilton, Texas, but later moved to Houston.
  3. Ollie McCollum, married- Earl Stapp and lived at Brecken ridge, Texas, where she died of cancer about 1935. They had two sons, Ivan Stapp and Earl E. Stapp.
  4. Martin McCollum, married Hallie Pinkerton in Hico, Texas. They had no children. He- died in 1944 and is buried at Millerville.
  5. Hattie Jane McCollum, married A.H. Runyon (Andy), both are dead and buried at Restland in Dallas. They had two sons, Vernon and Woodrow.
  6. Joe Beaver McCollum, married Maudie Graham. He died in 1943, and is buried at Restland in Dallas. They had one daughter, Mickey, who is the Home Nursing Supervisor for Department of Human Resources in Fort Worth, also serves two other counties, including Denton, County.
  7. George Washington McCollum, lives in Stephenville with his wife, Connie Edna. He is in his late 80’s, and is a re tired Church of Christ preacher. They have one daughter, Doris Frances Sanderson, and they raised her oldest son, Bobby, as their own. We had the pleasure of visiting with George and Connie for a short while in October 1984. He was assistant minister at the funeral of my dad, Ed Beaver, in 1949, then again at the funeral of my brother, Rollie, 1953.
  8. Arveta McCollum, married Orswell Roberts of the Duffau area October 24, 1915, ceremony performed by Elmer E. Giesecke. She died in the eighth month of her pregnancy and she and the baby are buried side by side in unmarked graves at Millerville.
  9. Myrtle Annie McCollum, married Charles B. Nichols on September 27, 1918, by J.C.White. He died about 1955, and Myrtle is in the Christian Home for the aged, Irving’, Texas. They had three children, Ernestine, Imogene, and Joe Mack Nichols.
  10. Viola McCollum, married Frank Houser of the Hico and Fairy area. He died about 1970, and Viola lives with a daughter in Henderson, Texas. They had two daughters, Lawana and Johnny Faye. LaWana lives in Lubbock with her doctor husband.
  11. Sam L. McCollum, married Artie Faye Moon in Dallas, Aug ust 16, 1926. The ceremony was performed by G. W. McCollum.
